This year has witnessed renewed push back against tourism where residents of tourist famed city such as Venice, Mallorca, and Barcelona resent overcrowding as well as skyrocketing costs of accommodation due to Airbnb. Due to increased tourism, there has been issues such as ‘overtourism’ that has caused measures such as entry fee and limits to be put in place. Now, it became critical to realize how Japanese towns, Bali or the US national parks look under increasing pressure of infrastructure and residents. Some attribute this to the irresponsible expansion of the tourism industry that shows no respect for the locals while more short-term lets and cut-price airlines exacerbate the problem. The recent push for hospitality and respect towards destinations has been spearheading the need for the use of Airbnb and other locally fueled services for better tourism. 🌍✈️🛏️
