Even though Vincent van Gogh is one of the most popular painters at present, his artwork wasn't that popular when he was still alive. 
In fact, he only sold one painting, called "The Red Vineyard," which is now at the Pushkin Museum in Moscow. 
The rest of his paintings (over 900) were not sold and gained fame until after his death.
