While many think of deserts as hot, a desert is defined by its low precipitation. Antarctica is classified as a cold desert because it receives very little rainfall and has extreme temperatures.

Wow, isn’t that interesting? 
When we think of deserts, we usually picture sandy, hot places, but Antarctica flips that idea on its head! It’s surprising to learn that it’s classified as a cold desert because it hardly gets any rain. Just shows how nature can be so different from what we expect!
