Dragonfly 44 is a mysterious galaxy located about 300 million light-years away that’s almost entirely made of dark matter! 🌌🔮 Unlike typical galaxies, it has very few visible stars or gas, with around 99% of its mass being dark matter. Dark matter is an invisible substance that doesn’t emit light but can be detected by its gravitational effects. Despite its lack of visible matter, Dragonfly 44 is incredibly massive, with a strong gravitational pull holding it together. Discovered in 2015 using the Dragonfly Telephoto Array, it’s sometimes called a "ghost galaxy" because it barely registers in visible light. This galaxy challenges our understanding of how galaxies form and provides clues about the elusive nature of dark matter! 🪐✨
