A 20-year study of 13,720 women identified seven key lifestyle choices that can significantly lower dementia risk, known as 'Life's Simple 7': it includes exercising, weight control, not smoking, lowering blood pressure, diet control, low blood sugar, and cholesterol control. In a piece of research undertaken by the American Academy of Neurology, it was found that improved compliance with these factors was associated with as much as a six percent reduction in the chance of dementia. Although the overall health scores have been declining by a bit, these are average scores that were pulled down by a drop from a score of 4. 3 to 4. 2 over the study period and it showed that 1,771 patients, representing 13 percent, had developed dementia. The conclusions seek to inspire mid-life behavioral modifications to reduce dementia risk in future years.
