A “magic carpet” ride at Detian Waterfall in Guangxi, China, has turned into a nightmare. What was meant to be a thrilling ascent up the mountain became a tragedy when a malfunction sent the ride speeding out of control. Sadly, this led to one person’s death and 60 injuries—one critically. Local authorities have detained several people as they dig into what went wrong. The ride is now shut down for safety checks, highlighting just how vital it is to ensure our safety at tourist spots. Let’s hope lessons are learned to prevent such tragedies in the future.
