Tube garlic paste

I finally broke down and bought some of the tube garlic paste I've seen used so often lately. Even though I've tried to use it sparingly, the first several meals I've tried with it come out with an unpleasant raw garlic taste. Normally I'm someone who loves the taste of garlic in food but found this very off-putting.

Do I need to change my cooking techniques to use this stuff or just go back to fresh garlic cloves? I'm about ready to toss the whole tube even though I've barely used it.
