In a church at Brazos County in Texas on some last weekend, a woman was refused entry along her seeing-eye dog due to religious exemptions to Title III of ADA. This decision which is protected by legal professional privilege is particularly at odds with any virtues of empathy and non-discrimination that most faith-based organizations preach. Guide animals that have been specially trained to help their masters in areas with strobe lighting and loud music are important companions for the disabled. Despite the fact that religious organizations may be out of the law enforcement agencies’ jurisdictions, the biblical teachings for the church to open its door to any needy individual should always win any legal technicalities. The logic that any assembly or Church would want to exclude individuals with disabilities from attending worship services of the Church through employing such exemptions is something that concerns me given my previous involvement in two Church boards.
