Underwater Mountain and Rare Aquatic Creatures Discovered

Oceanographers have discovered a 2-mile-high underwater mountain range in the waters around 900 miles off the coast of Chile. The mountain, the Nazca Ridge, hosts different sea creatures, including a rare squid species and a new species of octopus.

During the 28-day exploration, researchers also found two Bathyphysa siphonophores, which refer to rare deep-sea marine animals called "flying spaghetti monsters." These creatures feature long, wavy tendrils, thus their name.

Because of the various sea animals residing in the mountain, the Nazca Ridge is considered to be named as a "high seas marine protected area."
