The U. S. has said that Nicolás Maduro lost the Venezuelan election because according to them, Edmudo González Urrutia garnered the most votes. Antony Blinken, Secretary of State, said more greatly condemned Maduro for intimidating the opposition and refusing the election, which the regime’s electoral body declared in the favour of Maduro 51% and González 43%. Demonstrations took place in Venezuela; Maria Corina Machado one of the principal opposition leaders had to go into hiding because her life was in danger. The Maduro’s government did not accept the U. S statement and in turn urged it of risking a coup. The election has been characterised by accusation and rigging as well as a slow vote-counting process with Human Right Watch putting the figure of detention in this regard at over 1000 and deaths at several.
