USA Gymnast Jordan Chiles must return the bronze medal she won in the floor exercise, as the International Olympic Committee upholds findings that a coach's appeal that got her the third spot shouldn't have been permitted.
Chiles had initially finished fifth in the competition before U.S. coach Cecile Landi appealed that her difficulty score had been undercredited.
Officials agreed and adjusted Chiles' score by 0.1 points to 13.766, which helped her move up to the third spot, passing two Romanian athletes. This led to an angry reaction from that team.
But, the IOC said it would follow the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which ruled that Landi's complaint was made 64 seconds after scores were posted. The deadline for such action is one minute.
