What’s the deal with "overripe" bananas in baking?

I always hear that overripe bananas are better for banana bread, but I’m not sure how ripe they’re supposed to be. Is there such a thing as too ripe? I’ve got some that are basically black and mushy—do you think they’ll work or will it mess up the recipe?
 
Overripe bananas are actually a baker’s best friend!😁😁 If you have overripe bananas but aren’t ready to bake, you can freeze them. Just peel and store them in a freezer bag. They can be thawed and used later. 🍌🍞
