What’s the significance of fasting in religious traditions beyond just the physical act?

Hi folks! I’ve noticed that fasting seems to be a common practice across many religions, whether it’s during Ramadan in Islam, Lent in Christianity, or Yom Kippur in Judaism. But I’m wondering, what’s the deeper meaning behind it? I get that there’s a physical element of discipline and self-control, but is there something more symbolic or spiritual that connects fasting with a deeper religious purpose? Would love to hear what fasting means to you personally or in the context of your religious practices.
