Why do some food textures make people freak out?

Some people can’t handle the sliminess of okra or the squishiness of raw tomatoes. Others gag at the thought of crunchy jelly (yes, that’s a thing). What’s the science behind this?? Why do some textures just feel wrong in our mouths? And do you have a personal food texture nemesis?
