Why do some tennis players always take a specific amount of time between points?

I was watching a match the other day, and it struck me how some players take their sweet time between points—like the ritual of bouncing the ball a certain number of times or adjusting their strings. Is there a psychological reason behind it? Do they think it helps them focus or throw off their opponent? I know some players get penalized for taking too long, but I’m curious about the backstory of those who do it. Anyone know if there’s a specific player or match that really exemplifies this?

Great observation! I’ve noticed that too—some routines are so precise they almost seem superstitious. I think for many players, it’s a mental reset and a way to stay in control under pressure. Nadal’s pre-serve rituals are probably the most famous example. It’s fascinating how psychology and performance go hand in hand in sports!
