On Aug. 17, X, formerly Twitter, announced that it would cease operations in Brazil "effective immediately" because of what it called "censorship orders" by Brazilian judge Alexandre de Moraes.
The social media giant claimed that Moraes secretly threatened one of the agency's legal representatives with arrest if it failed to adhere to legal instructions to take down specific content from its site.
X posted photos of a document allegedly signed by Moraes saying a daily fine of 20,000 reais ($3,653) and an arrest decree would be applied if the platform did not completely follow Moraes' orders.
