Choosing Windows That Handle Edmonton Winters

Hi everyone, I’m located in Edmonton and starting to look into replacing the windows in my home. Winters here are no joke, and I’ve noticed that my current windows don’t seem to keep the cold out as well anymore.
Some rooms feel drafty, and the heating system is working overtime. I want to invest in something that’s actually built for Canadian prairie conditions, but there are so many options that it’s hard to know what really makes a difference.
Has anyone in Edmonton replaced their windows recently? I’d love to hear what helped you choose.

I went through a window replacement project in Edmonton not too long ago, and I completely understand your concerns. With the extreme cold we get here, insulation and proper sealing are absolutely key. After upgrading, the difference was immediate warmer rooms, fewer drafts, and noticeably better energy efficiency.
What helped me was focusing on windows designed specifically for Canadian climates rather than generic options. Prairie winters really demand durability and strong performance over time.
If you’re still researching, this page about Canadian Choice windows helped me get a clearer sense of what to prioritize for Edmonton homes.
