Abraham Lincoln shaved a beard during his campaign after receiving a letter from 11 year old Grace Bedell writing to him, it would be beneficial if he grew he because he looked much more appealing with facial hair on account of his thin face. It does; and the ladies would pull their men’s beards and tell them to vote for you, and then you would be president.
It's fascinating how something so simple could shape such an iconic look. Grace's insight about the beard making Lincoln more appealing and even influencing the ladies to convince their men to vote for him is pretty cool! It's those little moments in history that really make you appreciate the human side of it all.
