How Neptune Was Discovered

Neptune was the first planet to be discovered through mathematical predictions rather than direct observation. Astronomers concluded that another planet (Neptune) exists after they noticed irregularities in the orbit of Uranus. Johann Gottfried Galle confirmed its position in 1846.

It’s wild that it was Uranus’ orbit acting strangely that tipped scientists off. I wonder, though, how long it took to confirm Neptune was actually there?
