The Philippine Coast Guard together with the United States Coast Guard had a passing exercise or PASSEX near Lubang Island on Tuesday, aimed at the upgrading of the cooperation between the PCG and the USCG specifically in terms of maritime search and rescue, marine environmental protection and safety. The drill that occurred between 7 a. m. and 12 noon deployed the PCG’s BRP Melchora Aquino (MRRV 9702) and the USCG Cutter Waesche (WMSL-751). They comprised exercises that resemble actual happenings for instance, Search and Rescue (SAR), firefighting, communication exercises (COMEX), and medical evacuation (MEDEVAC). Through the exchange of ideas and processes in regards to SOPs The PCG and USCG look forward in improving their respective capabilities in dealing with emergent situations and contingencies on maritime environments.
