The largest desert in the world isn’t hot?

I always thought “desert” meant sand, heat, and no water, but turns out the largest desert in the world is actually Antarctica! It’s all about how little precipitation a place gets, not the temperature. Who else thought deserts had to be scorching hot? Are there other climate zones that are totally different from what we expect based on the name?

It's surprising, isn't it? Deserts are defined by their low precipitation, not just heat. Another example is the Arctic, which is also considered a desert due to its dry conditions despite being cold. It really challenges our perceptions of climate zones and reminds us that nature is full of unexpected surprises!
