The world's largest desert isn't the Sahara. Yes, it's quite surprising! When most people think of deserts, they imagine vast expanses of sand dunes like those found in the Sahara. However, the definition of a desert is based on the amount of precipitation it receives, not its terrain. Antarctica is classified as a desert because it receives very little precipitation, primarily in the form of snow. Despite its icy appearance, Antarctica is technically the largest desert in the world by this definition, even though it's covered in ice rather than sand.
