Why do cricket players shine the ball on their pants?

I always see cricketers rubbing the ball against their thighs like they’re trying to buff out a scratch on a car. What’s the science behind this? Does it actually help, or is it just one of those things that’s done out of tradition?

It’s all about swing! Rubbing one side of the ball keeps it smooth while the other gets rough, helping bowlers control how it moves in the air. It’s not just tradition—there’s real science behind it!
