Why do some ancient texts reference different numbers for the same event?

Okay, so I was reading through some old religious texts, and I came across this thing where different numbers are given for the same event or occurrence. For example, one text says “40 days,” but another might say “50 days.” Why would they use different numbers for the same event? Is it a translation issue? Or something symbolic that I’m missing? I’m just super curious if anyone else has noticed this too! Would love to hear your thoughts on this.
