So, I’ve been on a mission to explore cooking with some unusual ingredients, and it’s been quite the adventure! 🥑 Recently, I tried using aquafaba as an egg substitute in a mousse, and it was surprisingly great! What’s the most unconventional ingredient you’ve cooked with, and how did it turn out? I’m looking for some inspiration for my next culinary experiment!

That’s awesome! I’ve heard great things about aquafaba but haven’t tried it yet—your mousse sounds amazing! One of my more unconventional experiments was using black garlic in a pasta sauce. It has a sweet, tangy flavor and added so much depth to the dish.

One unconventional ingredient I’ve enjoyed experimenting with is miso in desserts. A small spoonful in caramel or chocolate chip cookies adds this deep, salty-umami note that makes the sweetness pop without tasting “savory.”
Another fun one is black garlic in sauces or even blended into butter — it’s sweet, tangy, almost balsamic-like, and way less harsh than raw garlic.
If you want something more adventurous, try a pinch of ground cardamom in savory dishes like roasted vegetables or rice. It adds warmth without being obvious.
