How does caring for a relative affect a family's work and finances (personal stories)?

Hi everyone, I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately. My dad has been having more trouble with everyday tasks, like bathing and getting dressed, and my family is considering hiring someone to help him at home in Philadelphia. A few people mentioned that a Home Health Aide might be exactly what we need, but I’m not sure what that role really involves and how it’s different from just a caregiver. If anyone has experience with HHAs — especially in the Philly area — what should I know before we even start looking?

I went through this with my grandmother a couple of years ago, so I get where you’re coming from. Understanding what a Home Health Aide does made such a difference for us. They’re trained to help with personal care, routines, and sometimes basic health-related tasks — more than just companionship, but not quite medical care like a nurse would do. I found a page that explains the role really well and helped me wrap my head around what HHAs do and what to think about: Home Health Aide Jobs Philadelphia https://carepointpa.com/jobs/home-health-aide-hha/. Reading that before we started talking to agencies made everything feel less overwhelming and gave us way better questions to ask.

I’m just chiming in as someone who doesn’t have direct experience here, but my neighbor recently became a Home Health Aide and says it’s more involved than most people expect. She talks about how building trust with the person she cares for is just as important as the actual tasks. Even without having gone through hiring one myself, reading threads like this has made me realize how much planning and clarity goes into finding the right fit for your family.
