Is there a good project-based alternative to a fractional CFO?

I'm wondering if anyone has found a decent alternative to hiring a fractional CFO on a longer-term basis, but for projects that need high-level financial analysis and strategy. Is there something between a standard consultant and a part-time CFO? Maybe a firm that specializes in short-term financial projects? I just need someone to come in, solve a specific problem, and then leave.

Yeah, that's a totally valid question. Sometimes you don't need ongoing support, just a burst of expertise to tackle a specific challenge. You could consider hiring a senior financial consultant on a project basis, or even look for boutique consulting firms that specialize in specific financial areas. I think something else worth exploring is shown here: fractional cfo services because sometimes projects actually reveal the requirement for longer term support.

It seems the key is really defining the scope of the project upfront. You don't want to pay for ongoing support when all you really need is a one-time fix. Clear deliverables and a well-defined timeline are essential.
