Why do so many religions have sacred mountains?

I was reading about different religious sites, and it hit me—so many belief systems have sacred mountains. Mount Sinai, Mount Kailash, Mount Olympus, even Machu Picchu has some spiritual ties. What is it about mountains that make them so holy? Is it the height, the isolation, the challenge of reaching them? Just curious if there’s a common thread across different faiths!

Great question! Mountains have this natural sense of awe—closer to the sky, harder to reach, and often untouched by everyday life. That mix of isolation, challenge, and grandeur makes them feel like the perfect place for divine encounters.
