Why do some sports have way more injuries than others?

I get why high-contact sports like football or rugby have tons of injuries, but then you see stuff like basketball or even non-contact sports where players seem to be constantly hurt too. Is it just bad luck, or is there something about certain movements (like quick cuts, jumping, etc.) that make injuries more common? Also, which sport do you think is the hardest on the body long-term? Would love to hear everyone’s thoughts!

Even in non-contact sports, the constant stress on joints and muscles adds up. Quick cuts, jumping, and repetitive motions put a lot of strain on ligaments and tendons, which is why you see so many ACL tears and stress fractures. Long-term, sports like gymnastics, American football, and distance running seem brutal on the body—tons of wear and tear even after retirement.
