The young national team was relegated to the battle for bronze after absorbing a straight sets loss dealt by Indonesia, 22-25, 18-25, 19-25, on Wednesday. The girls kicked off their bronze medal aspirations with a 10-2 run early in the first canto for a 13-6 lead — effectively pulling away in the frame for a 1-0 set lead. In Set 2, the taller Australians established a 7-10 lead over the Filipinas, but Alas eventually overtook their rivals at the 17-16 mark off a 4-0 run, concluded by an attack error from the opposing side. The young Filipinas kept that separation for the rest of the second frame.
